Outlook XP (2002)

This full-day class is intended familiarize students with the Outlook software application with their City of Chicago email accounts. Note that this class is NOT the same as the Outlook Web Access class (which concerns using Microsoft Outlook through an Internet browser).

Pre-Requisites

Attendees to this class must already have Outlook accounts with the City of Chicago. Students who arrive in class without preexisting accounts will not be able to fully participate in the this class.
While not a prerequisite to this class, the NDS Training Center’s Email Writing Workshop is highly recommended as a complement to this class.

Performance-Based Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand the primary differences between Outlook software and Outlook Web Access (OWA)
• Understand the differences between HTML, Rich Text, and Plain Text messages, and why each might arrive in one’s inbox
• Address and compose a message, change the message format, check the spelling and grammar and then send the message
• Open a message in your inbox, reply to it and forward it to others
• Add an appointment and an event to your calendar, including a recurring appointment, and assign a category to an appointment
• Learn to use the Out of Office Assistant
• Schedule a meeting with multiple participants, reply to meeting requests, and track meeting responses
• Add a contact to the contact folder and view the contact list in different ways. You will also sort contacts and assign categories to contacts
• Add tasks to a task list and edit them as needed; assign tasks to other users as needed
• Sort messages and find a specified message; organize the mailbox by creating additional folders, moving, and deleting folders
• Create a note and move it to your desktop; assign a category to a note, and assign a note to a contact
